Moscow, Russia: Yesterday, on Sunday, June 17th, 2018, the Mexico international soccer team pulled off
one of the greatest - if not the greatest - upset in World Cup history by beating team Germany 1-0 in the first
game of Mexico’s World Cup schedule.

Mexico now also becomes the first ever CONCACAF team to beat Germany. Mexico’s win against the
defending world champions makes them the best soccer team in North America, at the very least in the 2018
World Cup.

Mexico started the game strong, always winning battles in the open field and attacking strong, generating
many chances and shots on goal. Their defence was exceptional also, being able to so easily interrupt rushes
from Germany and their potent counter-attack, which led to the sole goal of the match in the 35th minute by
Hirving Lozano. Despite only having under 40% of possession in the match, the stellar Mexican defence
outplayed the Germans and their outstanding counter-attack led to a great offensive showing.

In the 88th minute, Germany’s Julian Brandt was almost the hero, but his blistering shot from 35 yards out
just missed the right post of Guillermo Ochoa’s goal and Mexico held on for the stunning upset. Germany’s
potent offence couldn’t get the job done and lost 1-0

Mexico has reached the Final 16 in their last 6 World Cups and with this opening win, can maybe dream of
going further than the quarterfinals that they last reached in 1986 against West Germany in which they lost 4-1
in penalty kicks.

In Mexico City, when Lozano scored the lone goal of the match, to give Mexico the lead, the celebrations
and jumping from all the 8.9 million people were so loud, that it was registered on the Richter scale and caused
a man-made earthquake. How high up on the Richter scale is unclear.

The next game for Mexico is a Group F clash with South Korea on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018, and Germany
will play Sweden, another intense Group F match up the same day.

Can Mexico win another game and possibly their group at the 2018 World Cup? Only time will tell.
